How to Transfer Chase Points to Hyatt and Book a Room (Step by Step)

Any first time transfer from a bank account to a hotel or flight can be a bit overwhelming. One of the best hotel redemptions I have had was with Hyatt through Chase. So, how to transfer Chase points to Hyatt and actually book a room with them? It’s one of the best ways to book hotels for way less than cash price, but the process trips people up the first time. Here’s exactly how to do it, plus what nobody tells you about resort fees, status credit, and what to do if you’re traveling with more than 3 people.

Transfer Chase Points to Hyatt: Step by Step

Step 1: Create a Hyatt Account

If you don’t already have one, sign up for a free Hyatt loyalty account (World of Hyatt).

Important: The name on your Hyatt account has to match the name on the Chase account you’re transferring from. If they don’t match, the transfer will fail.

Step 2: Link Hyatt as a Transfer Partner in Chase

Log into your Chase account. Go to the Benefits or Rewards section and choose Transfer Partners. Find Hyatt in the list and select connect or link.

Step 3: Add and Map Your Hyatt Account

Add your Hyatt account number so Chase can connect it. This links the two accounts so points can move between them.

Step 4: Pick Your Property and Transfer Chase Points to Hyatt

Decide which Hyatt property you want to book, and check if the dates you want have points availability. Once you find a room you can redeem with points, transfer that exact amount from Chase to your Hyatt account. Transfer rounds to the closest thousand.

Tip: Only transfer once you’ve confirmed the room is bookable with points. Chase-to-Hyatt transfers are instant, but they’re not reversible.

Step 5: Book the Room

When you check for the availability and the room, it shows you how many points are required as the below screen shot.

After you transfer, refresh your Hyatt account so the new points show up. Go back to the hotel, choose redeem points, and select your room.

Step 6: Confirm Your Booking

On the checkout page, enter your details as needed and confirm the reservation. You’re booked.

Resort Fees Are Waived When You Book With Points

This is the part people are always surprised by. Hyatt waives resort fees on any stay booked fully with points. Some resort properties charge $30 to $50 a night in resort fees on a cash rate, so this alone can make a points redemption worth more than it looks on paper. I also ask to waive the Parking fees at times. And sometimes they do. Nothing to loose from asking.

Points Bookings Still Count Toward Your Status

Booking with points doesn’t cost you status progress. Every night you stay, whether paid in cash or points, earns an elite night credit toward your World of Hyatt tier. So redeeming points for a family trip still moves you toward your next status level. Sometimes they even have offers where booking one night counts as 2 nights. Always check for offers before booking the room.

Points + Cash: The Backup Option

If a hotel doesn’t have straight points availability for your dates, check for a Points + Cash rate. This splits the cost between points and cash, usually around half the points needed for a free night plus a percentage of the cash rate. It’s not the best value per point compared to a full points redemption, but it’s an option if you want when a room would otherwise cost cash only.

Traveling With More Than 2 People

Hyatt’s online booking tool sometimes won’t show points availability once you enter 4 or more guests, even when the room itself can hold more people. If this happens, book the room for 3 guests with points, then call the hotel directly or message them once you’ve booked to let them know you have an additional child staying in the room. Most properties will note it on the reservation without any issue.

Hyatt Place hotels are a good option for this. With 2 queen beds and a pull-out sofa bed, they can typically sleep up to 6, which is what we use when we travel with our kids and a grandparent. And my favorite part is the “breakfast included” for Hyatt place and Hyatt house regardless of your loyalty status.

Which Chase Cards Can You Use

Not every Chase card transfers points to Hyatt directly. Here’s the breakdown.

Cards that transfer directly to Hyatt:

CardTransfer Rate to Hyatt
Chase Sapphire Reserve1:1
Chase Sapphire Reserve for Business1:1
Chase Sapphire Preferred4:3
Ink Business Preferred4:3

A 4:3 rate means every 4000 Chase points only becomes 3000 Hyatt points, so it’s worth transferring on the Sapphire Reserve, if you own one.

Hyatt Property booked using Chase Points
Grand Hyatt Goa booked completely on points. 60,000 points for 4 nights.
Today’s evaluation is at 80,000 points for 4 nights.

Cards that earn points but don’t transfer on their own:

  • Chase Freedom Flex
  • Chase Freedom Unlimited
  • Chase Ink Business Cash
  • Chase Ink Business Unlimited

If you have one of the earning-only cards, you’re not stuck. Pair it with one of the four transfer-eligible cards above and combine the points into that account, and then transfer the full balance to Hyatt from there. If you do not have any upcoming travel plans or stays and do not want to pay annual fee yet, keep using one of these above cards to keep earning the points which you can redeem later with one of the annual fee cards.

For more on which of these cards makes sense for your family, see our Best Travel Credit Cards for Families with Kids breakdown.

This is the exact process I use every time we book a Hyatt room with points, and first time always is the hardest. Hopefully this saves you that panic.
